The Hellenic Offshore Racing Club (HORC) is the first sailing club in Greece to operate an Offshore Sailing School since 1969.
HORC, apart from promoting offshore sailing in the Athens region, expanded its academic activities throughout the country, either in association with local Nautical Clubs or by establishing own branches such as in Amorgos, Gythio, Ierapetra Crete, Ios, Kastellorizo, Corfu, Leros, Pylos, Rethymno Crete, Hydra, Chalkida, Psara.
To date, more than 26,000 people have passed training successfully. Many of the famous Greek sailors have graduated from HORC Sailing Schools. HORC is also the organizer of the biggest offshore sailing event in Eastern Mediterranean since 1964, the “Aegean International Sailing Rally” (aegeanrally.gr) and recently the Aegean 600 (aegean600.com), a non-stop 600 nm race in the Aegean Sea.
The Sailing School of HORC holds significant distinctions and awards as well as international standards certifications such as iso 9001: 2015, iso Quality Policy. The Sea Survival training program is certified by the International Sailing Federation (World Sailing).
Moreover, HORC offers a unique “Maritime Communications” training program for short range communications. Custom offshore sailing training as well as general nautical training programs are also available.
Our goal is to offer high-quality training, ensuring that your cruises are safe and enjoyable. The lessons start with the absolute basics. You only need to know how to swim!
Training is undertaken by highly experienced instructors. Special attention is given to the theory classes being presented with multimedia, practical examples and models. Lectures are easy to comprehend and enjoyable. In practical classes, the instructors teach ropes and sails, with safety at sea as a priority at all times. The School owns seven training boats that can take eight people on board each.
For those enthusiasts, there are also Advanced and Racing classes to follow. Sailing is not only the knowledge of the sea and sails, but also the unforgettable moments of adventure, communicating with other people, the picturesque places you will experience throughout your training.
Theoretical lessons are taught in the most modern ways of teaching: wind generators and sailing models, presentations and animations. The School has seven training boats and trainees are divided into small groups to embark each boat.
The teaching staff consists of 20 experienced teachers and trainers with thousands of miles of experience at sea. We give particular emphasis on the safety of human life at sea with demonstrations of liferaft, safety equipment and lifejackets. HORC Sailing School makes sure that graduates can keep in touch with the sea and sailing in general.
